Great learning resource
this is a great resource which goes along with what we are learning. It also has links to other subjects that we may need help in. I sometimes overlook important details that is mentioned during a lecture while copying notes. Its always helpful to have another resource and its advantage that we can listen to two different speakers over the same material, maybe catching something that the other speaker did not mention. Great find.
I think that this is a really good idea. If you think about it….yeah, a lot of students seriously will not look at it…..but those few that actually watch the videos are the ones that are really interested in biology. Hence, the videos…combined with a certain teacher’s mad skills….might be nurturing and expanding the mind of the worlds next leading biologist!

At first I was hesitant to comment on this post, but then as I read the remarks left I was astonished to hear such great reviews and I almost wanted to laugh at how much some of the kids seemed to have liked it. So being the great science endeavor-er that I am, I checked it out. It is amazing and so helpful. I just wish I had looked at this before we took our last chemistry of life test.
For all the kids I laughed at, I’m sorry. I get it now, its good.

This is a superb website its easy workable if thats a word and it is good to get the lectures from another perspective, a MIT Profesor this is freakin awsomeastic. its getting me a little excited about cells.
This is a helpful source because it’s basically all in one place, instead of going to other online sources and searching for things and not knowing for sure if it’s even relevant. It definitely makes reviewing easier.
After having watched one of the videos available (protein functions), I noticed some interesting points about this resource:
1) assuming that most of the lectures are on roughly the same level, the material is quite accessible to AP students.
2)the professor seems annoyed at his microphone apparatus, not unlike many of our teachers.
3)the storied MIT uses old-fashioned chalkboards
4)they didn’t have to memorize each peptide “back bone” variation or understand the underlying chemistry (noted by the professor).
5)calculus and physics resources are also available, for anyone interested.
this is a great way for learning biology. with the combination of Mrs. Ferguson’s wonderful ways of teaching and watching these videos we will be closer to becoming biology experts!
Haha…studying for fun. I mean, what else does anyone study for? I’m interested in setting up on live video feed of our class for the entertainment of college professors. We have the intelligence in our class that college students could learn from, definitely. With the exception of Brigham.
Oo!! This is a super neat site.I am a very visual learner, and videos are always of great help for me to absorb information. I will definitely use that site for future lessons. Also, it is good that we’ll be able to stop the video or even go back and re-watch a part that we don’t get because in class, like someone mentioned, I often miss stuff in the scramble to write it all down.
I completely concur with Noma. In class, the note taking really does take attention away from what’s being said simlutaneously in the lecture. It’s nice to have both audio and video.
I also agree with the fact that, you know, its MIT. That’s a really major science school, so they’re probably given to going into great depth regarding whatever subject we’ll just be skimming. Sometimes knowing more information can throw someone off the track a bit.
A smile just crossed my face when I clicked that link. Just a little bit excited. That does remind me though, I’ll have to get back to you on the MP3 player/recorder soon, Ferg. I’ll be looking forward to some podcasts.
I absolutely love this website. I think it’s well worth your effort to maintain and perhaps even expand. I really appreciate what you’re doing for us. It’s great, especially if I miss a few lines (or a few paragraphs) in class. I think it’s a great way to learn.

The website was really helpful especially when you are up late and have a question or need clerifying while you are studying for “fun” you could just go on the website and look at the video for the lecture and use the notes that correspond with the video of the lecture
I think its just a great resource for us to be able to use because what kind of high school gets college professor lectures for them, and this is from MIT. So I agree with Jocelyn, even if i don’t fall asleep in class.
I like how the site has audio and video lectures because sometimes listening to lectures helps you understand better because you are somewhat actively involved. During the notetaking process we are sometimes too busy copying down what is on the screen to actively think about what it just said. The fact that it’s also from MIT professors is pretty awesome but I hope that it won’t be confusing since MIT will have higher level thinking in their introductory classes.

I think that this page is fruitful reimbersement of what you teach us in class especially for those of us who (me) tend to fall asleep in class.
