In case you don't already have Spring Break plans, and you're feeling adventurous, the Houston Museum of Natural Science is hosting the only North American showing of Lucy, one of our earliest ancestors.
My husband and I are planning a weekend trip down to Houston to see her, because well, what kind of biology teacher (and evolutionary biologist at heart) wouldn't go see this exhibit? I mean, really! Missing the opportunity to see Lucy would be like me going to London and not making a trip to Down House, where Darwin lived and wrote. What kind of a biology teacher would I be if I didn't actually take the opportunity to see who is widely regarded as the origin of the hominid line, which we are currently the terminal branch of.
Lucy's in town until April 20. I'm stoked about going to visit her, to say the least. I think it will be cool to visit with the long-passed ancestor of all of us.
